Another City: Heart of Winter will take place partly in the beautiful North Woods area of Central Park and partly in a white-box theater studio near Union Square. In the studio we will focus on singing as a tool for embodied performance. Participants will be taught traditional and original songs, and learn to explore them individually and as a group. We will also wake up our bodies and get ready to sing with extended sessions of playful, relaxing, dynamic, rigorous physical work in silence.
On Sunday morning we will meet at sunrise in Central Park. In the serene half-wilderness of the North Woods, we will breathe deeply, slow down, and prepare ourselves for concentrated artistic work. We will wake ourselves up and come together as a group through song and physical exercise among the winter trees and cold waterfalls.
Previous experience with singing or performance is not required.
Participants should be comfortable running, jumping, and lying on the floor.
The group is limited to 8 people.
